ISPON Raises Alarm Over Forged Safety Certificates, Urges Practitioners to Regularize Membership
Warri, Delta State — November 14, 2025
The Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria (ISPON) has expressed concern over the increasing circulation of forged safety certificates and the activities of unregistered individuals parading themselves as safety professionals.
ISPON President, Chief Stephen Udezi, issued the warning during a press conference held on Friday at the institute’s State Office in Warri South Local Government Area. He urged practitioners across the country to regularize their membership, stressing that doing so is essential to building a safer and more compliant work environment.
Chief Udezi reaffirmed that the institute remains united and firmly committed to its statutory mandate, dismissing any attempts by dissident groups to destabilize its operations. He emphasized that practicing in the safety profession without proper ISPON registration is illegal under the ISPON Act of 2014, which empowers the institute to monitor, regulate, and sanction organizations that employ unqualified personnel.
Also speaking at the event, the Delta State Branch Chairman, Dr. Kingsley Onerho, announced the release of an updated ISPON safety curriculum. He said the upgrade was designed to align training standards with global best practices and encouraged aspiring and current practitioners to take advantage of the enhanced modules.
Dr. Onerho advised members of the public to seek accurate information through the ISPON website or by visiting the state branch headquarters located on Tony Mene-Akpata Street, Ugbwangue, in Warri South LGA.
The briefing was attended by several senior ISPON officials, including Governing Board Member (Lagos Branch), Dr. Lucky Oderhohwo; Chairman, ISPON Rivers State, Dr. Shola Yemi-Jonathan; the representative of the Chairman, ISPON Edo State, Amb. Chuka Amobi; and Amb. Mrs. Joy Agbroko.
