How Nigeria law impede Substance abuse fight
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA has decried lack of enabling laws for it to go after individuals and organisations promoting the abuse of substance other than drugs in Nigeria.
NDLEA is a Federal agency in Nigeria charged with eliminating the growing, processing, manufacturing, selling, exporting, and trafficking of hard drugs. The agency was established by Decree Number 48 of January 1990. (READ THE NDLEA ACT)
Aside section 13 which was repealed in 2003,nothing has been done to review it to be able to deal substance abuse.
The failure to review this ACT by previous and current administration has therefore rendered the NDLEA powerless to tackle the menace,while empowering substance abuse peelers to go about their business without fear.
A delegation of the NDLEA Delta State command who spoke during a round table meeting organized by the National Orientation Agency and Foundation for Development and Community Engagement FDCE on Thursday in Warri,Delta state confirmed that the law establishing the agency does not empower it to crack down on cartels flying substance abuse.
MORE DOMESTIC SUBSTANCE NOW ABUSED
Representative from Chevron Nigeria in the presentation warned that alot of domestic substances were being abused daily as those involved continuously seek for means of getting euphoric pleasure.
They pointed while it is easy for individuals to start substance abuse it is difficult for them to determine when to stop the abuse,a situation that leads destruction of brain cells which hardly regenerate

Speaking at the end of the meeting director of research and advocacy FDCE Mrs Sheye Mene reechoed FDCE's readiness to partner with relevant bodies to tackle menace as well as provide professional help to Victims.
